For nurses who are registered overseas or nurses who were registered or enrolled in New Zealand and want to return to clinical practice. This programme will support you to apply for an annual practising certificate.

The October 2019 Competency Assessment programme is now full and no further applications will be accepted. Please check the website regularly for updates on when applications for 2020 are open.

Programme Outline

This programme integrates theory and practice and gives the overseas registered nurse, or the registered nurse who has been away from clinical practice, the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to meet the New Zealand Nursing Council Competencies for the Registered Nurse Scope of Practice and thereby apply for an annual practising certificate.

Entry Requirements

New Zealand Qualified Nurse (NZQN)

Evidence of suitability based on: CV or interview, to provide evidence of relevant clinical practice (with a minimum of two years post-registration), health screening, safety check and referee reports.

Internationally Qualified Nurse (IQN)

Overseas nursing registration, letter from the Nursing Council of New Zealand; and evidence of suitability based on CV and interview of: relevant clinical practice (a minimum of two years hospital nursing within the last four years – CV must include hospital certificates), health screening, safety check and referee reports.

International:  IELTS 7.0 in all bands (achieved in one sitting); or OET B in all sub-tests (achieved in one sitting).   (Pending approval).
