Be part of something big this Waitangi Day and celebrate Porirua at the all-new Waitangi Day Festival.
We’re looking forward to it, happening right here on Wi Neera Drive and at our Porirua campus.
Running alongside headline acts on the day will be a range of activities brought to you by Whitireia. The Te Auaha container will be in full swing, music and DJ students will perform and provide entertainment throughout the day. If you fancy yourself as a DJ, then come have a go.
Powerful cultural performing arts troupe Le Moana are performing at 12.30pm. Head to the Te Auaha container with your kai, settle in and take in this magical performance.
If you're wondering where to get your kai, there's a dedicated food area. Look out for the Whitireia stand where you’ll be able to purchase a delicious Korean BBQ chicken roll for $5, brought to you by our cookery team. Be sure to check out our café in Te Onepu where we’ll be serving tea, coffee and scones.
Make sure you head to Te Kete Wānanga while you're here, where you'll experience the pop-up-art sale and exhibition. Over twenty artists will be exhibiting and art demonstrations and workshops are running throughout the day. See weaving, carving, painting, ceramics and a printmaking workshop with Michel Tuffrey.
Maybe you’ve always wondered what sort of training our nurses and paramedics do, have a look through Wikitoria Katene and see for yourself our state-of-the-art clinical learning environment. Be sure to visit our simulation training suites to see our patient simulators in action and have a go on one of our patient care manikins.
There'll be a performance by our commercial dance students, the talent of these students and their energy is to be admired. They'll be running a fun mini workshop for any kids that are inspired and interested in dance. Check them out at the Te Auaha container at 11.15am.
Come down and experience all this along with a range of activities from Visual Arts, Trades, IT, Circus Dance and Film. If you’re interested in finding out more about studying at Whitireia, we’ll have staff on hand to answer any questions you might have, and our English Language students will be more than happy to show you around.
We’re proud to be partnering with Porirua City Council, bringing this event to the Porirua community.
We’ll see you there, Tuesday 6 February, 10am-5pm. Come down and enjoy this free, fun day for all the whānau.
